Completing this research questline will allow you to catch a shiny Ditto and unlock the first Mew Masterwork Research, which will eventually allow you to catch a shiny Mew. If you want to unlock this research quest, then you must first purchase a ticket for the Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto event and, afterwards, ensure you play the game on Saturday, 20th February. On this page: To unlock this questline, you must play Pokémon Go on Saturday, 20th February between 9am (local time) to 9pm (local time). This quest doesn’t have a deadline, so, once its unlocked, feel free to complete it in your own time. The challenges you face will differ slightly depending on whether you’re playing the Red or Green version of the event. Your chosen version will also determine the style of hat you’ll during this questline. Completing Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto Special Research will not only result in an encounter with a shiny Ditto, but will unlock the Mew Masterwork Research quest and it’s ultimate reward of a shiny Mew. Once unlocked, Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto Special Research doesn’t have a deadline, which means it can be completed after its associated event ends. We recommend, however, completing the questline during the actual Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto event, as it will be easier to complete a number of the tasks. Aside from this questline, purchasing a ticket for the event will also unlock 10 Collection Collections - Pallet Town, Pewter City, Cerulean City, Fuchsia City, Pokémon League, Raid, Research, Evolve, Trade and Incense. The latter two are different depending on whether you’re playing the Red or Green version of the event. Rewards: 20 Ditto Candies, 20 Mew Candies and 10 Ditto Stickers You also unlock the Mew Masterwork Research. Completing this Collection Challenge is thankfully pretty simple - but completing the Kanto Special Research, you’ll get all these as rewards as part of the various steps along the way. Several also spawn in the wild, if that helps you track down particular creatures. Remember, though the Kanto Special Research has no deadline once started, the Research Collection Challenge does - so if you want to finish it, then getting through the quest within that time is important.. The list of Research Collection Challenge Pokémon are as follows:
Cubone (Kanto Special Research Step 3 encounter) Lickitung (Kanto Special Research Step 4 encounter, rare wild spawn) Chansey (Kanto Special Research Step 2 encounter, rare wild spawn) Tangela (Kanto Special Research Step 3 encounter, rare wild spawn) Lapras (Kanto Special Research Step 6 encounter, rare wild spawn, also features in Defeat All Challengers research) Ditto (Kanto Special Research Step 7 encounter) Aerodactyl (Kanto Special Research Step 5 encounter, rare wild spawn) Snorlax (Kanto Special Research Step 5 encounter, rare wild spawn, field research task reward (see belolw), and also features in Defeat All Challengers research)
For completing the Research Collection Challenge, you’ll receive 1510 XP, 3 Silver Pinap Berries and a Ditto encounter. Still, we recommend completing during the event itself as doing so will help you complete the Research Collection Challenge. As well as this, there are some Stardust reward tasks, such as defeating a number of Go Tour Challengers. Here are the Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto field research tasks and their rewards:
Go Tour: Catch Bellsprout - 20 Oddish Candy Go Tour: Catch Ekans - 20 Sandshrew Candy Go Tour: Catch Growlithe - 20 Vulpix Candy Go Tour: Catch Mankey - 20 Meowth Candy Go Tour: Catch Meowth - 20 Mankey Candy Go Tour: Catch Oddish - 20 Bellsprout Candy Go Tour: Catch Sandshrew - 20 Ekans Candy Go Tour: Catch Vulpix - 20 Growlithe Candy Go Tour: Hatch 3 Eggs - Snorlax Encounter Go Tour: Hatch an Egg - Eevee Encounter
Thank you to manamal from reddit for the help with this information. The Season of Mythical Wishes continues with the Winter Holiday event, which has brought Mega Glalie to Pokémon Go. Don’t forget to partake in the new Go Battle League season. Elsewhere, be sure to use Daily Adventure Incense for the chance of encountering Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos and Galarian Moltres.
While this special research questline doesn’t have a deadline, it is easier to complete during the actual Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto event, thanks to the increased spawn rate for certain Pokémon. Remote Raid Passes now allow you to partake in raids from the comfort of your own home. You can even pick up some free Remote Raid Passes during the Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto event. If you want to quickly earn some hearts with your Pokémon buddy, try feeding it berry treats, playing with it or giving it a Poffin. Having trouble with Nice Throws? Find a Pokémon with a large catch radius like Mr. Mime, because this will make it easier to judge your throws. If you’re having trouble finding a variety of Pokémon species, then try placing one of the special Lure Modules - Glacial, Magnetic or Mossy - at a PokéStop. Each of these modules will attract a different type of Pokémon, making it easier to you to find a wide variety of creatures. Incense will also attract Pokémon to your location, allowing you to find a wider range of Pokémon.
Good luck completing this new quest and catching shiny Ditto!
